NFL Positional Standards

The standards indicate a range for comparison of other players at the same position for the following Combine tests. Standards range from a low of POOR to a high of EXCEPTIONAL. The middle (or AVERAGE) ranking indicates the average standard performance. The tables below list the present figures at relatively equal intervals. Anything higher than EXCEPTIONAL would be "off the charts"!

 

The standard corresponding to a given score indicates a comparison of players obtaining a score equal to or less than that score. For example, a QB who is 6 feet 2 1/2 inches tall (6024), 217 lbs and runs a 4.72 forty is ABOVE AVERAGE for height, AVERAGE PLUS for weight and EXCELLENT for speed. That means he is taller than almost 75% of the QB's tested in 2005, heavier than 60% of QBs tested in 2005 and faster than 90% of the QB's tested in 2005.

 

Height is recorded using four numbers. The first number represents feet.  The 2nd and 3rd numbers represent inches.  The 4th number represents eighths of an inch. For example, the height of the sample QB listed above - "6024" is read 6 feet, 2 inches and 4/8ths (or 1/2) of an inch.
